Broken Glass Stars

Broken Glass Stars

1 large (6-ounce) box red gelatin (Jell-O or store brand, any red flavor)
1 large (6-ounce) box blue gelatin (Jell-O or store band, any blue flavor)
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
2 envelopes unflavored gelatin (Knox)
Dissolve red gelatin in 2 cups boiling water. Pour into an 8-inch square dish. In a separate bowl, dissolve blue gelatin in 2 cups boiling water. Pour into another 8-inch square dish. Chill until firm. Cut the firm gelatin into squares and carefully pour the two colors together in a 9 x 13-inch dish. In a separate bowl, sprinkle the unflavored gelatin into 1/2 cup cold water. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes, until the gelatin starts to expand. Add 1 1/2 cups boiling water and stir to dissolve. Stir in sweetened condensed milk. Stir and allow to cool. Pour cooled mixture over gelatin blocks. Skim off bubbles. Chill until firm. Using a star shaped cookie cutter, cut into stars and serve.
Ohhhhh I love this recipe!! Isn't it cute?! And just perfect for the 4th of July picnics that are surely coming this wonderful holiday weekend. So easy and so delicious, too. I suspect that more than just the kids will like this one.
And here's a little tidbit you might want to tuck away for later. Wouldn't these be cute for, say, a graduation celebration --- in school colors! Cut with number cookie cutters. Or how about for Halloween, in purple and orange, cut in Jack-o-lanterns and bats! Or Christmas, in red and green, cut in stars or trees. Or Valentine's Day, in red and pink, cut in hearts. Or for birthday parties. You could use 4 small boxes of Jell-O instead of the 2 big ones, and choose 4 colors, if you want. How fun....and so many possibilities!
